Presentation Excellence - It Is Not All About You

Presentation Excellence - It Is Not All About You

If you want your audience to tune in to what you have to say, you need to tune in to what they want to hear.

In other words, the focus should not be on you but on them. And if you want to grab their attention from the very beginning, do not do the “all about me” thing on the first slide. You know the slide I mean…the one that has your company logo, the number of years you’ve been in business, the awards you’ve won, etc.

Once upon a time, it was thought that you needed to establish credibility to begin your presentation. But now sales presentation training experts recommend you establish credibility throughout your talk with your knowledge of the audience’s concerns and your innovative solutions and insight linked directly to their most pressing problems, concerns and goals.

So dump that first slide and, instead, begin with a true focus on what your audience wants. How can you help them? What can you teach them? What insights do you have for them? How will you add measurable and tangible value? How well do you understand their unique situation?

Then you’ll have their attention and respect.
