Everyone
loves a good story. Scientific research
tells us that storytelling is the most powerful way to sway an audience. More
of the brain is activated by a story than by even a well-crafted presentation.
Take the hint. The next time you are in front of potential buyers, tell a compelling
story.
Here
is a checklist from sales presentation training experts of features that will
give your story the impact you seek:
- Consider the audience. Make sure that your audience can relate to the story you tell.
- Use simple vocabulary and sentence constructions. The more complicated your statements and high-flung your words the more difficult it will be to follow you. Keep it simple.
- Include honestly felt emotions. Whether you laugh at yourself in an embarrassing situation or describe a tragic moment in your life, be genuine. Your audience will share your feelings if your emotions are sincere.
- Consider the story as an opportunity to put yourself in a flattering light…not in a self-serving way but in a way that conveys information you want the audience to know about you.
