When you are presenting live, there are lots of “rules” for looking and acting professional that you can learn from top sales presentation training professionals. But the “rules” change a bit when you present on a video conference call. What does not change is the necessity to be fully prepared. Just as you would make eye contact with a live audience, know your stuff so you can look up and “interact” with the camera normally.
Beyond preparing content thoroughly, come across at your best by following the 5 tips below:
- Remove distractions.
Close your office door or, if at home, put the dog out and see that your family does not disturb you.
- Check out the background.
What will show behind you? Make sure visible items are consistent with the image you want to present.
- Dress for the occasion.
Make sure that you are dressed appropriately. You may have to stand up to reach for more information.
- Choose flattering lighting.
Rather than an overhead light, use soft lights on either side of the web cam and one right behind you.
- Set the camera at the right height.
Put the lens so that it focuses at your eye level. Too high and your audience will be looking down at you; too low and your face will be distorted.
