Making Conferences Work for You

Whether you’re attending a conference or a networking opportunity, how can you make your investment in time and money worthwhile? You need to make the gathering work for you.

  1. Go with an objective…be it tactical or strategic. Maybe you want to garner at least as much business as the cost of the conference itself or maybe you hope to come away with new inspiration and new ideas for your business.
  2. Have an open attitude and open mind. You never know where the next best contact may come from…a chance meeting over coffee or an offer of help with baggage. Be friendly, introduce yourself, and move around.
  3. Build relationships ahead of time. Once you know who will be attending, choose those you would most like to meet. Then invite them to a separate gathering…perhaps cocktails on the day people are checking in.
Have a goal, enjoy the process and know your audience.
