A
slick trick for designing effective presentations is to start with big sticky
notes.
Rather
than working with a standard single-page outline, one sales presentation training expert recommends using the small notes to “story-board” to provide a visual outline of your presentation. Here is how it can work:
- Write down your main ideas, one at a time, on the notes. The small size of the notes will force you to focus on the most salient points of your presentation (from your audience’s perspective) and to eliminate the irrelevant and the “fluff.” Simplicity and clarity will rule.
- Arrange the notes in a logical order. This will help you build your story to a climax and to keep the most important concepts you want to convey front and center.
- Review the notes for audience relevance. There will be some that divert attention away from the main points of your presentation…toss them. Eliminate anything that does not focus on what matters most to your audience.
- Revise again and again to refine what you want to say and how you want to say it. Your presentation will only improve with time and practice. Lots of practice.
